What is the Cyril Taylor Bursaries Scholarship?
The Cyril Taylor Bursaries Scholarship were designed to support students financially, believing that financial hardship should not be a barrier to a student’s journey at university. These scholarships assist UK and US students demonstrating financial need in their application.
There is up to £4,000 cash awarded per degree over the duration of your study (£1,000 awarded per academic year, with a maximum of £500 per Fall and Spring semesters each). There are up to 15 undergraduate awards available for UK students, and up to 12 for US students.
Eligible UK undergraduate students benefit from cash payments per year they are enrolled as a student in good standing at Richmond.

- Undergraduate, UK Home fee (up to 15)
- Undergraduate, US International fee (up to 12)
Am I eligible as a UK or US student?
Your fee status determines whether you pay home or international tuition fees. You must meet certain requirements to be eligible for home fee status. If you don’t meet the home fee status criteria, you’ll have to pay international fees.
Some EU students may qualify for home fee status, if they:
- have pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
- meet specific eligibility requirements.

How are students selected for the award?
New students are assessed and selected for this scholarship based on needs (contextual admissions) once you have received an offer to study on one the University’s degree programmes.
- For UK students, priority is given to those with experience of care, refugee status (UCAS) or low income backgrounds (SFE).
- For US students, priority is given to those who are applying for Pell Grants.
How do I apply for the Cyril Taylor Bursaries Scholarship?
Once you have applied to a programme at the University using Direct, UCAS or CommonApp, please also complete an application form to apply for the scholarship.

Terms and Conditions
What are the Terms and Conditions of receiving the Cyril Taylor Bursaries Scholarship?
All scholarships at Richmond American University London are awarded with terms and conditions for receiving a scholarship or award. When you accept your scholarship offer, you agree to these terms and conditions as well as your student contract – all are sent to you at the time of your offer of a place on one of our degree programmes.
To be eligible to receive this scholarship:
- You must have completed enrolment for the first year of a full-time undergraduate/extended degree programme at Richmond
UK students
- You must be a UK fee-paying status student classed as a Home student (UK)
- You have a household income of £25,000 or less, even if you do not intend to take up the maintenance loan.
- Applicants must make an application for student finance.
US students
- You must be an International-fee paying student classed as an International student (USA)
- FAFSA has assessed your Student Aid Index (SAI) index to be in a range of -$1,500 to $5,000
- Applicants must make an application for FAFSA.
Outcomes of your application
Notifications of Bursary awards are sent from the Richmond Finance team, and awarded students will sign a Bursary acceptance form once fully enrolled.
Are there any circumstances that might affect this scholarship?
Currently the English Language Academic Excellence Award is based upon current fees. The university also reserves the right to adjust the value, volume and criteria of its scholarships should fees change.
The University will still endeavour to provide scholarships that provide students value for money and help students reduce student fee debt.
Can I receive other funding along with this scholarship?
You may be eligible to receive this award along with loans from Student Finance England (SFE) or other personal funding options. The final calculation excludes SFE interest and is based on 48 months & 36 months comparison, it is acknowledged that universities will vary with start and completion times.
UK students can take out a Tuition Fee Loan to cover the full cost of tuition fees. You repay this loan once you have left university and are earning over £25,000 per year. The loan is paid directly to the University by the Government. Apply for Student Finance.

What are the requirements for maintaining the Cyril Taylor Bursaries Scholarship as a student?
All scholarships at Richmond American University London are awarded with terms and conditions for maintaining your award as a student. When you accept your scholarship offer, you agree to these terms and conditions as well as your student contract – both are sent to you at the time of your offer of a place on one of our degree programmes.
To main this scholarship, you are expected to:
- Achieve and maintain a GPA of 2.5 cumulative, carried over from the previous academic year,
- remain in good standing as a student, and
- make a positive contribution to university life.
What does it mean to make a positive contribution to university life at Richmond and why is this important?
Research indicates that students who are involved in their academic community are high achievers, develop more skills and are more confident and articulate people. Engaging in the activities we outline here also results in a more positive, fulfilling student experience.
Planning and tracking your involvement is really easy and is managed through the University’s Careers Portal operated by the Student Affairs Office.
- Volunteering for five hours a semester on one of the following:
- Student Ambassadors
- Student Representation
- Student Leadership
- Participating or running Clubs and Societies
- Working on Campus
- Working in the community
- Local volunteering
- Take part in the Richmond Leadership Academy, and complete the Bronze Award as a minimum.
